For me, I would say that some of the most important qualities are honesty, compatibility, respect and support.
Honesty means being able to trust each other and communicate openly and sincerely. I don't want to be with someone who lies, cheats or hides things from me. I want to be able to share my thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment or rejection. Compatibility means having similar values, goals and interests. I don't expect to agree on everything or do everything together, but I want to have some common ground and enjoy spending time with each other. I also want to have a similar vision of what a long-term relationship entails and what we expect from each other. Respect means treating each other with kindness, dignity and consideration. I don't want to be with someone who insults, criticizes or belittles me. I want to be with someone who appreciates me for who I am and respects my opinions, choices and boundaries. Support means being there for each other through thick and thin. I don't want to be with someone who abandons me when things get tough or takes me for granted when things are good. I want to be with someone who encourages me to pursue my dreams and helps me overcome my challenges. Of course, these are not the only qualities that matter in a long-term relationship.
